The weekend of the legendary snow storm was filled with things that would make Ben proud. Although it was fun and adventurous, I don’t think I could live the “Ben lifestyle” everyday. Here is my story.
As the snow started falling, I noted to Michael how pretty it looked. We were staying at his house. An hour later, there was a foot of snow on the ground, and I was starting to get worried. There was no way we were making it back to my house to get my text books I needed.
As the snow continued to fall, the lights in the house started to flicker, but would keep flickering back on. Around 1 in the morning, the lights flickered off, but never came back on. I used the light of my laptop to navigate around the house. When my laptop’s battery finally died, I went to bed.
I awoke to Michael telling me the plan: We were going to walk a long way through the snow to a place where his aunt could pick us up, and we would stay at her house. So I packed up all the essentials and put them, not in a plastic bag, but my book bag. And we started walking.
We walked for a while, until we met his aunt and grandfather, and I was just some random person there. They asked me questions about my major, but I was still quite a mystery to them. Who was this random person that we are letting stay at our house?
We all went to his grandparents house, where his grandmother cooked us all dinner. Then I got an idea. We could stay in Lincoln’s apartment, on campus! So I texted Lincoln and he said he would ask his room mates, which eventually said it was okay.
So I packed my bags again, and we were off! Lincoln’s apartment required a key to let us in, so he lent us his to use for the weekend. We were hungry and tired, so we decided to go eat somewhere on campus. I got chicken with ranch and hot sauce.
Since we would be staying at Lincoln’s all weekend, we decided to grab some groceries. We got a box of cereal, 5 cans of spaghettios, bottles of mountain dew, and a bag of chips. I also bought new underwear at Walmart, cause I had been wearing the same clothes for many days.
So I spent most of the weekend eating canned food, in the same clothes, and being stared at by Lincoln’s room mates as they walked by (probably thinking to themselves “Who is that person and what is she doing here?”).
I slept on the couch in the living room, and charged my phone on the plug in the wall. I used balled up clothes as a pillow, and my coat as a blanket. When I ate my spaghettios, I didn’t microwave them, or put them in a bowl. I ate them straight out of the can with a fork. I didn’t shower all weekend, and I wore the same clothes everyday.
Although it was fun to live in Ben’s shoes for the weekend, I don’t think I could do it everyday. I’ve learned a lot about Ben by living his lifestyle, and learned that living like that is not as easy as it seems. The end.
